Herbal Fungal busters continues.

Again I’m reading a fabulous book called  The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods by James A.  Duke, PhD and in a weird way the guy reminds me of my father. Don’t ask and don’t worry…no ‘Odie’ complex here. Continuing on with our saga of Plants that Kick Fungal Ass are:

Black Walnut or particularly the fresh husk of the black walnut destroys Candida better than some prescribed drugs for the same according to California herbalist Kathi Keville in her book  Herbs: An Illustrated Encyclopedia.

She makes a tincture out of an ounce of fresh black walnut husk and a few drops of tincture from Lavender Flowers, Valerian Root, and Pau d’arco plus 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Personally I’d try to get it direct from her if you want to try it.

Camomile is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory that is also an antifungal used against candida. It can be used both internally (tea) and externally dabbed on affected area. Big warning though..it’s part of the Rag Weed family and could trigger allergic reactions. Pay attention to your body to see if it feels itchy or aggravated and if so discontinue using.

Goldenseal is antifungal and antibacterial and has been used traditionally for yeast and fungal conditions. Using a tincture (and following the tinctures directions) a few drops can be added to juice and taken internally 3 times a day. It can also be used topically by simmering 7 tsp in a cup of water for 20 minutes, strain then apply with cotton balls.

Tomorrow is a new day so we’ll finish off the last 4 fungal herbal fighters ‘manana’.

By the way… I indulged in my Cold Pressed Coffee today and it was simply yum! The advantage of steeping your coffee grinds in cold water and letting it sit a few days is that the flavour of the bean comes out without the acidity that ‘hot’ water provokes. Be patient grasshopper. It is definitely worth the wait.
