Wild edibles from my front lawn.

Here in the ‘Cariboo’ we don’t spray our lawns. This makes them utterly deliciously edible for the wild greens only steps from my back door. Most people would over look this simple ‘Weed’ as a pest and toss some Drug on it to make it go away…I on the other hand put some in my steamer for dinner last night.

Dandelions.

The young plant is popping up everywhere with delicate tiny leaves perfect for Salads or steaming like Spinach. The yellow flower and the root of the plant are amazing for cleansing the liver and can be consumed in teas or stir frys. The leaves on the other hand are good for shedding excess water from the body as it acts like a Diuretic.

They say it’s a bitter plant but I found it to be less so than say Gai Lan. My taste buds are greatly improved since I started this cleanse and I am tasting the sweetness in Raw Foods that I never noticed before. I don’t have the same desire to drown everything in a sauce. In fact I noted that I’m not thinking (fantasizing really) about all the sweet treats that I can’t have any more. The cravings are gone. If anything I miss the ‘variety’ in foods and beverages which is quite a different thing from joansing for it.

On another note I’ve been Milk Free for a week now and as much as I hate to admit it I’m feeling better this week. I was starting to go fog brained again and felt sluggish along side the time I vamped up drinking Coffee again. My friends observed the correlation and asked me to lay off the Dairy in my coffee just to see what would happen. So far I’d have to say that steering clear of milk has been a good thing. Who knew that dairy turns into glucose? Damn..
