Today I tried something new.

Brown rice chips by Riceworks has a very satisfying crunch and a nice dense texture.  It’s a hell of a Chip and works very well along side Guacamole.

Then I read all the ingredients.  Almost scott free….everything was acceptable EXCEPT… the Corn Flour in it.  The chips were a gift so I’ll finish them guilt free, nonetheless, I am amazed by how few processed foods are exempt from something unexpected on the list.
It says….Brown Rice Chips so naturally there’s Corn in it???

I recently watched a documentary called, “Food Inc.” and if you want to have the blinders ripped off your shades to know where the majority of your food comes from…I dare you to rent the DVD.  Scary Scary boo stuff.

Makes me wish we’d followed Europe’s lead in NOT accepting Genetically Modified Foods for fruits and vegetables nor ‘Frankenfoods’ like Cloned Meat. COMPANIES AREN’T REQUIRED TO LABEL THESE FACTS ON THE PACKAGING IN YOUR SUPERMARKET… So unless you are buying only Organic and from ranchers and farmers that you know ….assume it’s a ‘Frankenfood’.  I am appalled that we and the animals alike are treated like cattle, not given the facts and therefore not given the choice.

The majority of people who don’t rent documentaries will never know the extent to which farming practices have changed nor why.  It’s a sad sad state of affairs.

The GOOD news is that we consumers have more power than we think.  VOTE with your dollars.  A Grass Roots movement towards sustainable and old fashioned farming and ranching practices is afoot. Choose farmers markets and a diet of foods grown within a shipping radius of 100 Miles for your grocery list and you would not believe how quickly things could change.  Oh…and plant a seed today.  A kitchen garden offsets the food bill and restores power to the people. Die Monsanto Die.
