School’s in session.

Here are the last 4 remaining Herbal Ball Busters for tackling fungal issues as per the book, The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods by James A. Duke, Ph.D.

Henna..henna? Yup. Apparently this natural hair dye contains a compound known as lawsone which doesn’t bode well for many fungi and Bacteria. James suggests making a strong concoction by simmering 5-7 tsp of henna per cup of water for 20 minutes, then allow to cool and apply to affected area up to 3x daily with a cotton ball or clean cloth.

Lemongrass, another antifungal, can be enjoyed up to 4x daily as a tea and then the tea bags can be used topically on the affected area.

Pau-d’arco has three anti yeast compounds (lapachol, beta-lapachone and xyloidine) that show candida albicans who is boss. It can be used as a salve and can be found in most herbal remedy stores.(follow the directions)

Tumeric is the last of our anti fungal heroes. The oil of tumeric can be diluted with water and applied to the affected area with a clean cloth or cotton balls.

Now one little side note I’d like to add about taking Tumeric internally according to the book  Herbs Demystified: How Herbal Remedies Really Work by Holly Phaneuf is that more of the oil-soluble Curcumin can be pulled out of the tumeric if consumed with a healthy oil since curucumin isn’t water soluble – don’t make a tea out of it. In fact when curcumin is combined with the piperine found in black pepper…it increases the bioavailabilty of the curcumin by 2000% and you can get a ready to take Life Extension Super Bio-curcumin supplement  which has 95% curucumin to 5% piperine that you can pick it up on Amazon.

As always…do your own homework and maybe one of these herbs will be the knock out punch we’re looking for.
