One of the Ancient Grains from AfricaMillet.

It ain’t just bird feed.

I ran out of Rice so I thought I’d rummage through the cupboard and see what else I could pair with my faux Japanese meat mixture.  There was trusty Quinoa to fall back on,  but Millet peeked shyly from the back reminding me I’d bought that almost 3 months ago in anticipation of trying the ‘other grains’ I was allowed to have.  I must admit I have been overdosing on rice so it’s probably a good thing I ran out.

Millet is cooked in a ratio of one cup grain to two cups water and about 25 minutes in the rice maker.

I must admit after I made (and tried millet) I wasn’t a huge fan of its texture which leans towards Mushy.  I’m thinking perhaps there are other applications to use this grain for aside from pairing it with meat mixtures.  Mahaps a hot cereal?  It will be a Google affair to see if I can find a suitable recipe for leftover millet.

On Another note I put in my Vegetable Garden yesterday, and am quite pleased with myself for putting in a solid day’s physical labour.  Happily the body didn’t take me out of the game this time.  Afterwards my neighbours invited me to come sit on their deck to enjoy the dawning of the day over a beverage.  I declined the glass of wine and instead discovered a very pleasant ‘bevie’….Cranberry Fizzy with Voldka.  Very refreshing.  Unfortunately I had it before eating dinner…so…passed out early this evening. Maybe it was all that fresh air? (grin)
